Our Story
My wonderful wife was attending Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho in 1984. I had just returned from a LDS mission to Belgium and France and felt prompted to go to Ricks College Fall of 1984. The first week of school I was in the music dept and came across an audition for the Acappela Choir, I had not intended to audition however once again, I felt that it was important that I do. After being accepted to the choir, my first day in class I observed the student leadership of the choir. I noticed that while there was a young man as President of the choir there was someone else who was actually in charge and while I was in the back row I couldn't tell who that person was.
The Choir had a opening social at a local park later that week and even though I had worked all night at both my jobs I decided to attend. I was so tired that I actually crawled under a table and fell asleep. I woke up to two young ladies that caught my eye. One of them I watched carefully as she and this other girl checked out the river. From that point on I knew who she was and I always noticed when she was near by, however I never had the courage to introduce myself. She was clearly out of my league!
The choir had a dance party in November of 84 and I decided once again that I should go even though I wasn't sure why. When I got there I saw her.. she was in the middle of the room and as always had lots of people around her. Sometime during the night she was looking for someone who could polka dance with her, I just happen to know how to polka and we dance in circles around the room. It was a great deal fun and we danced for some time. As the evening came to a close and she once again was surrounded by many others, she began asking if anyone could give her a ride home I didn't notice the hint until she had turned down the offer from another young man. I realized at that point that she was hinting at me. I offered her a ride home even though I was driving a 1963 VW Bug with no heat and had to be push started. I asked her out and 3 months later we were married. Seven children later and several grand children. Sharilyn takes my breath away every time she walks by. This is our beginning.
